Application of Graphene in Li-ion Batteries

Aug 22, 2022

The commercial application of lithium-ion batteries has the advantages of large battery capacity, high energy density, low self-discharge, and wide operating temperature range, and has been widely used in daily life. Data show that in 2017, Our country's lithium battery industry consumption reached 91,500 tons, an increase of 8.80% over the same period last year.

At present, there are three main applications of graphene in lithium-ion batteries, namely as anode materials, cathode material  material and conductive additive.

Graphene is the most mature in the application of lithium electronic battery anode materials, and has been used in graphene-modified silicon-based materials, graphene-modified tin-based oxides, graphene-modified transition metal materials, and graphene-modified other carbon materials. Materials and other modified materials have made progress in the application of lithium battery anode materials.

The application of graphene in the cathode material of lithium-ion batteries has also received extensive attention in recent years, mainly due to the special structure of graphene with high two-dimensional specific surface area and its excellent electron transport ability.

At present, researchers have found that modified LiFePO4 graphene has good electrical conductivity. The development of modified materials with better conductivity is the focus of technology research and development of graphene in the application of cathode materials in the future.
